Tips for staying active in the summer HEAT!

We all know the importance of staying active- the physical and emotional benefits are both long lists.

When summer starts to come, how can we still stay active in the heat? It's easy when we have a home gym or yoga studio that we always hit up, but why do that when you can get outside?!

Last week, we talked about what the benefits were for working out outside. This week, we're going to share some tips for staying active in the summer heat!

Try your next workout routine OUTSIDE to get some fresh air and sun. Keep these tips in mind when doing so:

  1. The heat has an impact to your workout: this may be obvious but it is so important to keep in mind. Doing the same workout when you're outside compared to when you're inside, will require more energy. Go slow and drink lots of water!

  2. Exercise in the mornings or afternoons: this is a great excuse to start waking up earlier! Wake up early and see the early morning sky while doing your favorite workout in the backyard. It won't be too hot but you'll still work up a sweat!

  3. Be mindful of how much water you're drinking: when you're sweating, you lose water. Working outside will make you sweat more, and you have to make sure that you're drinking enough water to make up for it so that you don't get too dehydrated.

  4. Watch out for these signs: cramps, dizziness, vomiting, and fainting. DO NOT continue to exercise in the hot sun after feeling this. Take care of your body! Get plenty of rest and go for a walk or light jog the next few days to get back in the groove of things.

  5. Be sure to be safe in the sun: read this post here about sun safety!
